Researchers believe that non-hallucinogenic components of marijuana contains anti-cancer agents that could finally put an end to the war against cancer
Cancer has deluded top biological scientists over the years. In fact, the fight against cancer is one that has left the human race without hope for a possible cure. Dr Wai Liu who led a team of highly rated scientists at the St George’s, University of London has shown that the non-hallucinogenic components of cannabis could act as effective anti-cancer agents. Over the years, patients were encouraged to smoke cannabis because of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the agent responsible for the hallucinogenic effects users feel when they smoke the drug. Scientist now sees cannabinoids, cannabis-derived compounds as the next big step to eliminating cancer. Cannabinoids is reported to have no hallucinogenic effect. Several experiments were carried out on 6 types of cannabinoids, some of the tests were performed in single or combined situation and a stunning discovering was observed. Researchers discovered that all 6 types of the cannabinoids exhibited anti-cancer properties and were even more effective as those seen in THC because their combined effect saw a greater potency against cancer cells. “This study is a critical step in unpicking the mysteries of cannabis as a source of medicine. The cannabinoids examined have minimal, if any, hallucinogenic side effects, and their properties as anti-cancer agents are promising. These agents are able to interfere with the development of cancerous cells, stopping them in their tracks and preventing them from growing. In some cases, by using specific dosage patterns, they can destroy cancer cells on their own. Used in combination with existing treatment, we could discover some highly effective strategies for tackling cancer. Significantly, these compounds are inexpensive to produce and making better use of their unique properties could result in much more cost effective anti-cancer drugs in future.”
This study has been published in journal Anticancer Research, it represent the benchmark in Cancer research as the entire world drops their differences and hope in one accord that the dreaded disease is eliminated.
