Launched in Dubai, I finally have the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus review live and while there is so much to talk about, I am going to be brief, yet detailed about it.
This is how I have constructed this review. Firstly, I will give you a quick unboxing of the smartphone, then the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus review; hand-on will be just below the quick video review and the end of the article. You can click on the link to jump-you into the review.
Alright, I think Tecno has made a bold statement launching the phone outside Nigeria, but the big question is, does that translate into the power most users will want in a Tecno smartphone and have they done a proper R&D building the Tecno Phantom 6 and the 6 Plus?
Tecno Phantom 6 Plus Review: Unboxing
The judgement was that whatever is inside this box has to be gorgeous, when I opened the box my judgment was absolutely correct.
In the box, you have two packs; one has the phone and the manual nobody reads, the other pack has the smart case, USB-C adapter, tampered glass and earphone.
I think these Chinese manufacturers know how to box a phone better than Samsung and Apple. You see your box and it looks like it translates to the value of your money, but you spend a fortune on an iPhone and you will get a little unattractive box like you paid nothing for it. You know what I mean…

Tecno Phantom 6 Plus Review: Design & Build
And I think I have been a fan of the design concept which is great. The Phantom 6 Plus houses a giant 6-inch display encased in a metal body.
The design looks comfortable to hold despite being a giant device with 6-freaking inch display. It will take a little adjusting for guys who are used to 5.5-inch display.
The rare of the Phantom 6 Plus provides a unique and shinny finish and the protuding camera at the back, means you have to be a little bit more careful when dropping the smartphone.
It looks like the Camera is scratch resistant, but I am not sure how long the resistance power can last. However, if you love to use the smart casing, you will have no problem mistakenly “scratching” your camera against a hard surface.
The Teno Phantom 6 Plus is not designed to be water resistant, but it does come with a version of Corning Gorilla Glass. You also have a tempered glass screen in one of the packs for an extra level of screen protection.
Tecno Phantom 6 Plus Review: Features And Spec
Under the hood of the Phantom 6 Plus is a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor coupled with 4GB of RAM, which is the first time a 4GB RAM device is produced by Tecno.
I found the smartphone to be extremely responsive, multi-tasking is superb and there have been no cases of freezing or laging since I started using the phone for over a week now.
Alright, I think that is enough. The Phantom 6 Plus is an all-round performer. It comes with an advanced Sony CMOS Imaging technology powering the 21.2MP primary camera.
The camera performs great in optimum lighting conditions, and can take some really good shots.
Here are some picture taken in average lightening condition and under the sun-light with the primary camera.
Tecno Phantom 6 Plus also comes with two layer of encryption security. One is a fingerprint technology with an option to register 5-different fingers and an eye scanner that is yet to work perfectly for me.
Here is the Antutu benchmarking scores. You can also take a look at the Geekbench scores.
With all that power under the hood, the Phantom 6 Plus needs a decent battery to power it and that is exactly what Tecno put into the smartphone. It comes with a 4050mAh battery with USB-C light charging technology that will help you charge your phone quickly to 50% before normal charge begins.
Tecno Phantom 6 Plus Review: Software
In terms of software, the Phantom 6 Plus runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Users who wanted to see Android N would be disappointed I believe and I do not know what Plans Tecno has for an update but it looks like a possibility.
The Andorid M on the Phantom 6 Plus is based on Tecno’s HiOS. A custom OS that adds a bunch of apps and functionality to the fold.
Tecno Phantom 6 Plus Review: Pricing and Release Date
Tecno announced the flagship at in event in Dubai and it’s already available in Nigeria.
Our source say the price will vary from N120,000-N130,000.
Here is a quick video review of the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus. I love to hear your feedback.
Tecno Phantom 6 Plus is an all-round performer; fast in speed, great in camera, stylish in design and beastly performance. I like the Phantom 6 Plus but I am not sure why it has to be a 6-inch device. I expected it to retain its traditional 5.5-inch design language like the Phantom 5 and maybe a 5.2-inch design would have been cool for the Tecno Phantom 6.
If Tecno wanted a super large screen device, they should have created a new entry like what Infinix is doing with the Note 2 and Note 3 series. However, despite the large display, it still manages to look comfortable to handle.
For folks who would be facing a hard challenge deciding weather to get the Tecno Phantom 6 or the Phantom 6 Plus, I wrote a spec comparison between both smartphone.
I love the sound output, it is the best I have seen on any smartphone, I love where the speaker grills are located and I am equally impressed with the 64GB base storage.
The Tecno Phantom 6 Plus would be a worthy purchase. Follow the guide below to discover online stores that has the phone in stock.
